2 Early US coins
recovered in Virginia.
1915 and 1909 coins in good
condition. Coupled to sell
at a modest price. Backs are
quite detailed on both. The detail
on the crown of the 1909 is not
as defined as that on the 1915
but still 2 nice coins for
your collection.
Item C9075 $26.99 for both!

U.S. Draped Bust Cent in good dug condition.
This cent was excavated in central Virginia and cleaned with electrolysis.
We can't get a legible date out of it, but there appears to be a faint "17"
on the lower left. Based on the leaves on the back, this is a Reverse of
1797 cent, indicating that it was made between 1796 and 1807.
Item C9073 $19.99

 |
Civil War era U.S. 1865 two cent piece.
This copper coin was only made from 1864-1873. Seldom-seen coin, it
holds the distinction of being the first coin to bear the words, "In God we trust,"
because of increased religious fervor during the Civil War. "In God" and part of
"Trust" is visible. All other numbers and letters are clear.
Item C9064 $14.99

|
 |
1794 U. S. large cent in good dug condition.
As you can see in the larger pictures, this is a thick
coin. The detail on this very early cent is weak, but there
is enough to determine its identity and date.

Bullet-struck large U.S. cent. This
cool piece was recovered in Caroline County, Virginia and was
struck by a pistol ball - probably a .36 caliber. The coin has not been cleaned
or altered, and it is guaranteed to be authentic. As you can see, this was very
close to being a center-shot and was probably done on a bet.
Item C9059 $129.99 |
|
 |
Counterstruck 1868 Indian Head Penny in good dug condition.
The images on this well worn coin are somewhat faint but the counterstruck detail
G & E is sharp and clear. The date and lettering are legible and the back is also
faint, but recognizable. The merchant's counterstrike makes this a unique collectible.
Item C9058 $34.99 |
|
 |
1809 U.S. half cent.
This coin, minted in the year of Abraham Lincoln's birth, has seen a lot of action.
"Liberty", amazingly, is mostly legible. There is a lot of wear and the edges have
taken some abuse, but there's no mistaking this coin's identity.
Item C9050 $12.99 |

 |
U.S. 1860-O Seated Liberty silver dollar from Virginia.
This Civil War era coin shows excellent detail. Someone scratched letters
on it, detracting from its appearance from the viewpoint of a coin collector
but for an artifact collector, it adds intrigue. They may be "J. E. B.", or,
perhaps, "I. E. B." (On close scrutiny, I believe it is REB). This dollar
was recovered recently in Carmel Church, Virginia, near the site of
Grant's headquarters during the North Anna Campaign. It was found 6"
in the ground by a digger using a Minelab Explorer. (Specs: 17.2 dwt, .945 oz., 412 grains)
Item C9027 $629.99 (Will consider serious offers.) |

 |
1857 Flying eagle one cent piece. Dug in a Union
Civil War Camp in Central Virginia, this coin shows ground action but the words and
date are legible and sharp. Near the wing is a small dimple that appears to be an
attempt at creating a hole for the soldier to wear.
Item C9037 $16.99 |

 |
Three relic coins from central Virginia.
One is a seated Liberty half dime. The last two years of the date has a ding,
making it illegible, but there is an arrow to the left of the date. This
indicates it was minted between 1853 and 1855. The date on the large cent
is illegible. The hole indicates that it may have been worn, perhaps by a
Civil War soldier. The other coin is of unknown origin. It appears to be
"dos" something, perhaps centavos; this is a guess. The date looks as if it
might be 180_.
Item C9032 All 3 for $12.99

 |
Civil War era Ulysses S. Grant medallion.
This medallion measures about 1 3/8" in diameter: a little bigger
than a US half dollar. I personally recovered this one in a Confederate
campsite at North Anna, Virginia last year. I found it under a piece of
slate at an old house site beside the camp. I had read that reading a dozen
times before I realized it was not the rock that was reading & that is
probably why its is such good condition.
Item MS9042 Priced to sell at $69.99 SOLD

Knickerbocker currency token.
About the size of a penny, crisp detail front and back. The front
says "Knickerbocker Currency" along the rim, with a
figure in the center. The back has "I.O.U. Cent" along the rim,
with "1" inside a sunburst in the center. There is a hole in the token,
as if someone wore the token.

Early token stamped "J. N". (Usage unknown.)
(The reverse is the same.) This token, which is the size of a large U. S. cent,
has some damage. We estimate that this piece dates to about 1800. It
was recovered in central Virginia.
Item MS4007 Priced to sell at $29.99

Granville Stokes Pennsylvania store token.
This half-dollar-sized token is in excellent dug condition - clear detail and
nice patina. This store, located at 609 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia,
made "fine, fashionable clothing", according to this 1862 dated token.
This token is also mentioned in the book, United States Tokens 1700-1900,
by Russell Rulau, page 509. Note that "Chestnut" is misspelled on both sides,
as Rulau's book also mentions.
Item MS9026 Priced to sell at $99.00

1840 Beck's Public Baths, Richmond, Virginia
(Hard Time Token). Charles Beck is recorded in the October 1832 Richmond City Deed Book as
the Confectioner who operated a public bath on the south side of Main
Street, between 13th and 14th Streets in Richmond. It is noted that the
baths were operated through 1844. This token has been graded by Numismatic
Conservation Services as HT-441, VG Details with some ground action. A
novel piece, showing a nude woman testing the bath waters - quite risque
for the 1800's. This token has a good deal of wear and displays two minor
nicks on the edge which appear to be old and I am not aware of the purpose
they may have served. Recently I became aware that a mint red specimen of
the Beck's Baths token sold at the Bowers and Merena Auction for $3450.00.
Item MS4006 Priced to sell at $325.00

dollar but much thinner in composition.) Somewhat worn but easily read
with the naked eye.
