slave manilla Authentic Manilla or slave token.
Manufactured in Birmingham, England between 1830 and 1850, these tokens were shipped out to Benin on the Slave Coast of Africa. The manillas represented a value and were bartered for human cargo. The "unfortunates" were transported in the hold of ships and taken to the West Indies. The history of my manillas reflects that these two were raised by divers from the wreck of the English schooner "Duoro" sunk off the Isles of Scilly in 1843.
Item NOV2006   $75.00

2nd slave manilla Second Manilla or slave token.
This token has the same history as the previous one, manufactured
in Birmingham, England between 1830 and 1850, and recovered from
the submerged "Duoro" which was sunk off the Isles of Scilly in 1843.
